"A Splendid Alternative" by Jack Huber
(review written May 14th, 2009)

From the minute you open A Splendid Alternative by Jack Huber, you are filled with a sense of anticipation, a longing for something creatively unique and you are never disappointed.

A Splendid Alternative is a literary buffet; amazing photography is served up as an appetizer while the main course samplings include the relevant analogy of the human condition in The Dormant and the visual description of a boy of summer as he “fidgets in the batter’s box and waits”.

It is Americana, past and present depicted in the melancholic Lost Hope and the weathered abandoned shack in El Dorado Canyon. From the beautiful reminders of the Grand Canyon to the vivid description of gangsters on the lam, Huber takes us on a poetic journey that ends in hope- A Splendid Alternative, a literary tribute to the spectacular recovery of a town destroyed in the wake of nature’s fury.

No matter what your taste, A Splendid Alternative whets and satisfies and it is journey worth taking more than once.
