No, this bald eagle is not in Alaska, Canada or even the Pacific Northwest. During the last stay we had in Ohio, we had the great fortune to visit the Geneva State Park (on the southern Lake Erie shoreline) at the same time a feisty, seasoned bald eagle was overlooking his domain. This guy was easily 60 feet or more from the ground and didn't seem to have any concerns about me approaching the tree to snap the pic.
I guess when you are on top of the natural food chain and legally protected from humans, there's nothing much to worry about except other raptors. I love that these magnificent birds are extending their territories from sea to shining sea, and from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. I've now seen one or more in over ten states.
