Edisto Beach sits at the mouths of the South Edisto River and Big Bay Creek where they meet at the Atlantic Ocean in South Carolina. The Edisto River is one of the longest free-flowing blackwater rivers in North America, completing its 206-mile journey to the Atlantic right here where this photo was taken. Even though the western shoreline does not have a view to the open sea, the sound is large and gives plenty of interest to any sunset. We certainly enjoyed our walk on the beach the evening I snapped this shot.
