I asked my wife, Nadyne, to select the "Photo of the Week" yesterday and she chose another of the fabulous glacier pics I took during our Alaska cruise earlier this year. This photo was of the front wall of the Harvard Glacier in an arm of the College Fjord, which is located in the northern region of Prince William Sound in Alaska. The black lines and dark shading on its face, debris from the glacier's long journey, contrasted with the blue tint and white ice to produce an almost eerie scene, especially as thunderous cracking could be heard from deep within the glacier. All of the glaciers that we viewed from within a hundred yards were magnificent.

One of the more pleasant aspects of America's third largest city is the number of parks and green spaces in and around the metro area. In one such space, Millennium Park, I found a wide variety of wildflowers scattered around the grounds, including these coneflowers. If you look carefully at this photo, you can see a few busy visitors on some of the flowers.

Some of you may have experienced the legendary Disney attraction called the "Enchanted Tiki Room," where a gallery full of "audio-animatronic" birds has been serenading crowds for decades. When this snowy woodpecker visited our campsite several times this spring, he reminded me of something from my youth I just couldn't put my finger on. Eventually I realized that his expressions and plumage were strangely reminiscent of that famous room's characters. This photo still cracks me up.

In case you aren't familiar with Southern Arizona, the Colorado River weaves its way to Mexico, flowing near Yuma. Nearby, it even becomes the state boundary between the Grand Canyon State and the Golden State. On both sides of the river, the desert is incredibly hot in the summer.
Near Yuma, the Colorado River feeds Lake Martinez and one of a few oases in the area. It was an interesting surprise to come upon it, as was the dichotomy of the arid desert the green palms and grasses of the oasis. Wonders of nature never cease to amaze.

On the lower east coast of Lake Michigan is a town on what is called the "Riviera of the Midwest," St. Joseph. This Michigan port town is one of many growing resort communities in the region and is peppered with remarkable sand dune formations and lined with a lush countryside. The evening and sunset views of the St. Joseph North Pier Outer Lighthouse at the mouth of the St. Joseph River are remarkable and I couldn't help snapping a few of my own shots. The incoming fisherman made this one of my favorites.
