Not only did these California warblers sing to passers-by, they lined up like musical notes on imaginary ledger lines. The sloping hills of San Benito, inland from Monterey and Carmel by the Sea, are known for fabulous wineries and agriculture, but they have more than their share of birds for casual and serious watchers alike. This was one of dozens photos of birds I snapped during our stay in the area. Yes, the hills were alive with the sound of birdsong.
