It's unusual to come across wildflowers that are vividly red, but this overlook in Northern California provided such a find. Wild rhododendrons aren't especially uncommon in the Golden State, but when touring the coastline, bright red flowers will always brighten your day.
This spot is on Coastal Drive, which winds along the Klamath River and gives a view of the last quarter mile of the river, where only a strip of sand separates it from the ocean. At the right time of day, this sand bar hosts dozens of seals and sea lions.
