![]() Below is a 360-degree view of one spot in the middle of the Jedediah Smith State Park near Crescent City, CA. Here we found an absolutely beautiful forest of giant redwoods. Notice that the some of the trunks are wider than the road?

The first time I saw trees that large I was not very impressed - almost everything dwarfed me. I was only six. But as I grew older the wonder began. And after being in other states I understood more. California is a special place, but it was more so in the 1940s when there were fewer people (and probably even more so before that).

Thanks for the comment. You made good points, both about everything around you being tall at age 6 and the lower population of California in the 40's. I was born in the 50's and can commiserate.
